Montpelier FC champions of LSL Major 1D

It was a bright spring afternoon on May 3rd as league leaders Montpelier FC, who are just shy of winning the league title, faced off against 6th place Ashwood. 

Montpelier FC have been on a brilliant run of form, having been undefeated for the entire season up to this point, now it’s Ashwood FC chance to beat the undefeated and keep them away from the title. 

The game took place on the astro of TUD Grangegorman campus with the kick-off at 12:00pm. 

Both teams began warming up before hand with a couple of one-two touches of the ball and a light jog. 

The game began with electric pace as each side pressure another to keep the ball in their possession. 

Montpelier immediately had the first chance at goal, with a block from the defender sending the ball out for a corner, that wasn’t converted. 

After Montpelier’s attack, Ashwood were relentless for the next 20 minutes of the match, with constant shots being thrown at the keeper, but none led to scoring opportunities. 

However, in the 44th minute of the match, a counter was created after a string of several passes from the Montpelier players after retrieving the ball from the opposition, which resulted in a half-time goal from them, it was now 1-0 to Montpelier on their quest to claim the title. 

The whistle blows for half-time as the confidence builds towards the winning team to see through the game while the opposing side looking to strike back and find an opening to swing the momentum back in their favour. 

The second half begins with Montpelier FC in the lead with another several minutes to hold out on becoming victorious and their opportunity soon came after with a counterattack from a miss opportunity resulting in a 2-0 lead for Montpelier FC as the players on the bench bash the glass in excitement as they fill they have the title wrapped up. 

The goals continue as a free kick is given to Montpelier FC which is deflected off an Ashwood player which results in a score line of 3-0. 

Montpelier FC put the game to rest as a pass to one of the players in the bottom left corner resulting in the game finishing 4-0, with the final whistle blowing, Montpelier FC are champions of the LSL Major 1D. 

David Foran, the captain of the squad complements himself and the players for a fantastic performance and a fantastic season. 

“To go unbeaten, it’s unbelievable, it’s unreal. We have a great bunch of lads you know what I mean, every single one of them can play in any position and they have all the heart, we can go and win anything.”
