Lecturers at the BIMM music school in the Liberties are considering restructuring proposals from the institute’s British management after their recent industrial action.

With the addition of 46 new jobs created at the college, there is a total of 135 Lecturing staff at BIMM Dublin, with 53 being laid off.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost Louise Jackson said, “it is currently proposed, subject to the outcome of consultations, that approximately 35 roles will be made redundant in the Head of School (Academic Delivery) department.”

Students gathered outside of BIMM to protest in support of their lecturers.

Third year student Jude Forrester said, “The proposal made me feel like I wasn’t returning for fourth year.”

“I went to BIMM to learn from the people who were actually in the industry,” he added

According to a BIMM spokesperson, they are pleased to be making 46 offers to their lecturer community during its ongoing consultation process.

“We are now looking forward to finalising this process in the coming weeks.

“By moving to this proposed structure, there will be 20 part-time lecturer roles on full-time equivalent salaries of between €36.5k to €45.5k a year, which is 15 more roles in that pay band than in our current structure,” they said.
