“We’ve met the expectations of the public,” says local Green TD

The Green TD for Dublin South Central, Patrick Costello, has told The Liberty his party is ready to run on its record as part of the Government over the last four-plus years.

Costello also pointed to his local record of work in the Liberties, in his quest for re-election in the four-seat constituency. The general election takes place on Friday, November 29th.

“I want to continue in my existing campaigns, such as the Iveagh Markets restoration, as well as a new multi-denomination secondary school for the Liberties,” Costello said. “I want to see our gardaí resourced to tackle growing anti-social behaviour. I’ve secured a gaelscoil for the Dublin 8 area, and I want one for Dublin 10 and 12 as well.”

The Greens are low in national opinion polling, and Costello faces challenges from sitting TDs Joan Collins (independent/Right to Change) and Aengus Ó Snodaigh (Sinn Féin), as well as candidates from all the major parties and a slew of independents.

“We’ve received a broadly positive reaction to the Budget from the public, and we’ve met the expectations of the public,” Costello said. “People only typically tune into Budget measures once they’re implemented, and they see the difference in their bank account.”

Housing is currently the most pressing issue for Irish voters, according to The Irish Times.

“We have established the Land Development Agency, and begun the rollout of cost-rental housing, which is our cornerstone housing policy – something we want to continue to expand to ensure people can afford to live in a secure living situation,” Costello said.

He said the Greens “are finalising our manifesto as we speak and will be shortly announcing our key policy platforms”.
