Murals at Dalymount Park to be destroyed during redevelopment

Several of Dalymount Park’s striking and historic murals are set to be removed during the demolition of the stadium.

Jimmy Dignam, the operations manager at Bohemians FC, has stated that the club will be adding new murals once the redevelopment is completed.

The current stadium is scheduled to be replaced with a new €40 million stadium, with a capacity of slightly over 8,000 people.

The new stadium is set to be completed in time for the commencement of the 2028 League of Ireland season.

Artist Niall O’Lochlainn painted several of the Dalymount murals.

He said that working on the murals provided him with a sense of satisfaction and that it felt ethically correct to help Bohs bring their ideas to life.

“Sometimes you do work for brands the odd time that are fairly soulless, so it’s nice to balance it out with some work that is rich in the right areas,” he said.

Legendary footballer Pele is amongst the famous figures that have been painted at Dalymount Park.

It memorialises the occasion when, In 1972, his Santos side faced a selection of players from Bohemians and Drumcondra XI. Santos beat Bohs/Drums 3-2 on the day.

“I was doing the Pele one and it was a great day. Loads of Brazilian guys were beside me cooking up a barbeque and offering me beers. I was loving it,” O’Lochlainn said.

“There was a good sense of community, and they were delighted to see a Brazilian man going on the wall,” he added.
