Pats One Last Push for Europe as Rovers and Shels Fight for Destiny

This Friday, the League of Ireland season is set for an enthralling finish, though title hopes for St Patrick’s Athletic are over.

On October 25th, a four-horse race was halved. St. Pats’ 1-0 win over Derry City put Derry out of reach of the title, but Shelbourne’s home win against Drogheda meant the high flying Saints were also put out of contention despite an eight-match winning streak.

On July 4th, they were sitting eighth out of 10 teams, after a 1-0 loss to Waterford, and getting European football for the 2025 season seemed inconceivable.

Since then Stephen Kenny’s men have won nine out of 10, with the winning streak including three away Dublin derby wins against Shamrock Rovers, Shelbourne and Bohemians, scoring nine goals in the three games.

After the 1-0 win over Derry, Pats travel to Sligo knowing a win would secure European football in third position ahead of Derry City who were in and around the title all year. A win would also guarantee the club at least €325,000 in prize money with the possibility of much more. This year Pats earned €1.275 million euro after a historic run.
