Stellar goals from Dawson Devoy and Archie Meekison gave Bohs the 2-0 win over a lackluster Sligo side on Saturday night.

Bohemian’s had more quality chances than the home side in the first half, with James Clarke coming close to opening the scoring in the 20th minute from a superb Dayle Rooney delivery that forced an excellent stop from Sligo goalkeeper Edward McGinty.

In the 22nd minute, Devoy took advantage of a slick move involving 6 Bohs players, and neatly slotted the the ball into the left bottom corner to put Bohs 1-0 up.

Sligo’s William Fitzgerald came close to equalizing just before the interval, with a sumptuous stike, drawing a great save from Bohs goalkeeper Kacper Chorazka.

The second half kicked off and it was still all Bohs, at the 62nd minute the Rovers’ Ollie Denham got caught in possession in a dangerous area, setting off the lively Dayle Rooney baring down on goal, but he had too much power in the finish and blasted it off target to give Sligo a big let off.

Sligo would not be as fortunate in the 81st minute, as Sligo’s Conor Malley was dispossessed by Devoy on the right side of the pitch in very similar fashion to Denham’s error in their previous chance.

Devoy drove towards the box and cut it across to Meekison who was waiting on the edge of the box. Meekison took one touch then shifted it onto his right foot in space to smash it into the bottom left corner for a superb goal that gave McGinty no chance.

Bohs, now with a 2-0 lead took full control of the game seeing out a late Sligo push, to claim the vital three points to guarantee safety.

The win keeps Bohs in the Premier Division, and relieves some pressure off manager Alan Reynolds after a disappointing season for the club.

As for Sligo Rovers, it puts to end a late charge for European football places, as a mid table finish looks set for the club.
