The Paper Kites return to Dublin to headline Vicar Street

Australian band The Paper Kites are returning to Dublin to headline Vicar Street on Sunday the 28th of April.

The Aussie band are touring their latest album ‘At the Roadhouse’, and have toured across 4 continents, as well as 24 countries, and played at The Button Factory in Dublin last year.

The Melbourne based indie folk five-piece assemble have amassed a huge following since their debut EP, ‘Young North and Woodland’ amassing nearly 1.5 billion total streams on Spotify, as well as 8.9 million monthly listeners.

Forming in 2010, The Paper Kites relied on homemade EPs to sell at their gigs to spread their music. Their crowds gradually began to increase but it was not until the release of their hit song, Bloom, that they would see a change in fan base.

Bloom was originally recorded as a hard copy that could only be bought at their live shows, but was an instant hit when released digitally.

The Paper Kites’ sound is largely influenced by folk music, with a mixture of soft melodic harmonies between the two lead singers, Christina Lacey and Sam Bentley.

The album’s title, ‘At the Roadhouse’, was influenced by an abandoned building the band found whilst travelling in Australia.

The group gave the building that once served as a shop for local gold miners a new lease of life, transforming it into a music space named The Roadhouse.

The band described the space as a mixture of “all the great dive bars we’d been to around the world” during a press event for the album upon its release in 2023.

The album was written and recorded here in its entirety, and they would play the songs to a small local audience every weekend, adapting each song to allow them to evolve as they were played.

The album encapsulates The Roadhouse, creating great visuals through sound that allow for a great listener experience when mixed with their slow instrumentals.

Tickets for their headline show at Vicar St are retailing at €35 and can be purchased via Ticketmaster.
