The monthly Sunday market with the crazy name – Le Zeitgeist Bohemia Flea Market – started two years ago in Stoneybatter at the Educate Together National School.
These days, it is being held in Kelly’s Yard, Phibsborough, and features an array of vintage clothing, furniture, homemade goods, and jewellery. There’s even a live DJ!
Le Zeitgeist market has been in its Phibsborough location for the past year and is a great hit with not only the customers but the merchants, too.
“Our first market was Easter last year, and we’ve been coming since then,” says Colm Durham, who sells in Le Zeitgeist with Aquarius Sea Jewels – their stand features earrings and necklaces decorated with colourful sea glass. “There’s such a great atmosphere, and it’s great when you meet other traders – you share ideas and help each other for different markets.”
Robbie Field, who attended the market with his t-shirt brand Field and Greene, agrees that the market has been useful to grow his brand due to the location and amount of footfall. “It really is good for the area,” he adds. While many other markets around the area can be very expensive, at Le Zeitgeist, Field says, “you get bang for your buck.”
Aine and Molly Hughes also had a stall at the market selling clothes. They are unsure of the name of their brand, but are fairly curtained they’ll name it ‘Cute Hoorders’. It was these ladies’ first market, and they said that they would probably come back to Le Zeitgeist again if they were to attend another market in the future.
“We are a new business in the sense that we haven’t done this before, so if in future we accumulate loads [of clothes] again and we want to sell it we’d probably be back to this market because it’s great and it’s busy,” Aine says.
Kelly’s Yard is a mixed indoor and outdoor venue – those with vintage items have shelter without worrying about their goods getting damaged by the Irish weather. Meanwhile, those situated outdoors have gazebos to protect them from potential weather mishaps.
Le Zeitgeist market continue to encourage businesses to attend the flea market by contacting them through their email. New and returning businesses are welcome. Details about the markets, including date and location, can be found through their Facebook and Instagram pages.
The next flea will take place on Sunday, March 10th.
