Culture Date with Dublin 8 to return this May

The cultural initiative ‘Culture Date with Dublin 8’ is set to return this May – the festival’s fifth time running since it was set up in 2017.

This year’s festival will also commemorate the 100th year anniversary since the end of the Irish Civil War in 1923.

The event, taking place on May 13 and 14, aims to encourage visitors and residents of Dublin 8 to celebrate the area’s cultural and artistic history.

Organised by Dublin City Council South Central, the celebration also wishes to boost D8’s reputation as Dublin’s up and coming cultural hub. Time Out magazine has recently regarded the area as one of “the coolest neighbourhoods in the world.”

At this year’s initiative launch, Grace McEvoy, curator of the festival, called on locals to “revel in a range of awe-inspiring cultural experiences while enjoying what has been hailed as one of Ireland’s most vibrant and diverse areas.”

There will be more than 50 free events taking place across Dublin 8 during the festival weekend – where visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the cultural landscape of the area by attending talks, tours, markets and performances.

There are also an extensive range of children’s events taking place too, so the little ones won’t miss out on the fun.

Additionally, most of Dublin 8’s significant historical and cultural sites such as Christ Church Cathedral, Dublinia, Kilmainham Gaol, the Irish National War Memorial Gardens, and IMMA (Irish Museum Of Modern Art) will be holding free tours over the course of the Culture Date weekend.

Attendees of the event will be able to get their hands on the ‘Cultural Attractions Passport’ and collect cool stamps at all of the attractions they attend at this year’s festival.
