14th annual Liberties Fun Run moves to September

The Liberties annual Fun Run for St James’s Hospital Foundation – traditionally held on a Wednesday in July – will take place on Sunday, September 4th at 10am, starting at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham.

The St James’s Hospital Foundation is the official charity organisation for St James’s Hospital and the 14th annual fun run will be in support of this.

“The Liberties Fun Run is one of our very special flagship events here at St James’s Hospital Foundation. Many seasoned runners describe it as one of their favourite running events, as it takes participants through the heart of old Dublin and offers a unique run through the streets of Dublin 8,” said spokesperson Jamie Conway.

The nearly six-and-a-half-kilometre race starts at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, leading the route through well known sites in the Liberties including St James’s Gate, Francis Street, The Coombe, Fatima and then circles back to the original starting point.

The Fun Run draws approximately 1,500 runners each year.

“Participants vary from regular marathon runners to grateful patients who take on the four miles at their own pace to show their support of St James’s Hospital,” said Conway.

The donations and proceeds from fundraising will be used to improve patient experiences and comfort at St James’s Hospital including purchasing new equipment, funding projects and furnishing family rooms.

All participants will receive a running top and a souvenir medal.

Online registration for the Liberties Fun Run 2022 starts at €25 on the website or it is free if you fundraise a minimum of €100 of sponsorship.
