TU Dublin’s campus was among the fifteen colleges nationwide that were chosen for pop up vaccination centres, the Liberty explored the effect of this on students.
Following an announcement by the Minister for Further and Higher Education Simon Harris and Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly, pop up vaccination centres appeared on 15 college campuses nationwide.
The temporary vaccination centres were available from September 27th to October 1st across 15 colleges.
The TU Dublin clinics were located in Grangegorman, Blanchardstown and Tallaght campus.
Site manager of the TU Dublin pop up clinic, Jack Koers, spoke to the Liberty about the turnout of the vaccination centres over the last few days.
“Over 200 Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines were administered over the previous days with the vast majority of those given to students under 25.”
“In addition to students there were a number of teachers, lecturers and campus workers that presented themselves for vaccination.”
Nearly 50% of those in attendance were receiving their first dose and many students expressed their appreciation for the pop-up clinics on campus.
The aim of the clinics was to ensure that those who were returning to college that were not vaccinated yet and unvaccinated international students the opportunity to avail of the services too, said David Walsh from the HSE Work Stream Lead Vaccination Process and Workforce in a statement .
“Young people across Ireland have demonstrated their support for the vaccination programme and the incredible uptake rates have shown this,” said David Walsh.
The CHO DNCC vaccination team also organised a clinic in DCU on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
73.7% of people in Ireland are fully vaccinated with at least 3.7 million already in receipt of their first dose.
Although the pop-up clinics are no longer operating on campuses around Ireland, other walk-in vaccination centres can be found online at www.HSE.ie
