Irish film to premiere at Film Festival this weekend

Dub Daze, a new Irish film written, directed and produced by Irish filmmaker Shane Collins is finally complete and will premiere at the Virgin Dublin International Film Festival in Cineworld, Dublin on Saturday February 23rd.

It is a comedy drama that follows three separate stories set in north, south and inner city Dublin.

Clide Delaney, who is originally from Inchicore in Dublin 8, has been acting since he was five years old and is set to appear in the upcoming film alongside Graeme Coughlan from Cabra.

According to Collins, Dub Daze has been in the pipeline for almost two years now but it will finally premiere this Saturday the 23rd February. In his words the film is “a feel good film that celebrates our love for everything Irish.”

Growing up in the flats in Inchicore in the late 1980s, Clide Delaney had parents worried about him being on the streets and getting wrapped up in drugs and crime. To keep them busy, they put him and his brother into classes, one of which was acting. Delaney, who plays ‘Petal’ in the film, took his first class in Digges Lane near St Stephen’s Green and attended several acting schools before being accepted into the Gaiety School of Acting in 2008.

Collins is a film and broadcasting graduate from DIT Aungier Street (now Technological University Dublin) and also has a screenwriting masters from IADT.

This is certainly not his first venture into film as he has made many over 12 short films. However, this is his first feature length film and while he is proud of his work it has not been plain sailing.

“The film was not been easy by any stretch but I’ve had so much love and support from my family, friends and all the artists in the film,” Collins said. “The reality was I had no other option but to carry on and not quit. So many Irish artists had put their faith in me and the film I didn’t want to let them down.”

Collins is passionate about helping young Irish talents and throughout this production he has employed over 50 cast and crew.
