Electric Picnic announces first round of acts

Duran Duran, The xx, Chaka Khan and A Tribe Called Quest were the first round of main headliners announced for this summer’s Electric Picnic.

The festival will be taking place at the Stradbally Hall in Co. Laois from the 1st to  3rd of September.

Interpol, Run The Jewels, Father John Misty, Madness, Annie Mac and Rag’N’Bone Man were amongst some other prominent acts to be announced. Pete Tong will also bring his “Ibiza Classics” to the festival.

The announcement came just hours after the festival was sold out in record time. Sunday tickets were entirely sold out after a mere five minutes since going back on sale. However, Three customers could still avail of extra tickets which are to be released at a later date.

Electric Picnic weekend tickets were almost immediately available on controversial secondary ticketing sites Seatwave and Viagogo. Prices on these sites ranged from €300 to over €500. Original tickets were priced at €240.

This year’s line-up will face a tough task in living up to the previous year’s blend of old-school legends and modern day superstars.

The 2016 edition of the festival included sets from Manchester icons New Order, The Chemical Brothers and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. Performances also came from some of the biggest acts in the world today such as The 1975, Lana Del Rey, Years & Years and Catfish and the Bottlemen.

A further round of acts and stage times are set to be announced later this summer.
