A 29-year-old man accused of robbing a shop last Thursday on the South Circular Road in Rialto was charged with the crime on Friday.
He appeared before Court no. 2 at the Criminal Courts of Justice, Parkgate Street on Friday afternoon at 4.30pm.
At approximately 1.05pm on Thursday, a man entered a shop in Rialto with what was believed to be a hand gun. He threatened staff and demanded money.
The male was wearing a black jacket, blue tracksuit bottoms with a grey stripe down the legs and blue runners. During the altercation, his face was covered in a white cloth type of clothing, according to the Garda Press Office.
When the man left the shop, he turned right and took a second right towards New Ireland Road in Rialto.
Gardaí from Kevin Street Detective Unit, local units and members of the Divisional Crime Task Force responded to the alert call from the shop and began a search of the Dry Dock area off New Ireland Road. Here, they observed a male running into the bushes.
The man was arrested and brought to Kilmainham Garda station, where he was detained up until Friday under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.
During a search of the area on Thursday, a firearm and a sum of money was recovered.
