NCAD student JJ Donnelly has scooped one of the top prizes at this year’s Dublin Fashion Festival, winning the young designer of the year award.
Dublin Fashion Festival is a week-long annual event which brings fashion and beauty retailers in the city centre together as they present a range of live fashion events.
As part of the coveted prize, Donnelly shot a fashion portfolio with fashion photographer Barry McCall and received a €2,000 bursary from festival sponsor West Coast Cooler.
The 23 year old designer thanked those who sent her messages of support following her success, adding that she is “still pinching herself” since winning the prestigious title.
Angela O’Kelly, Head of Design for Body and Environment at NCAD said, “It is wonderful to see the products of the knowledge, skills and talent, that our Fashion Design graduates have acquired and developed during their time in NCAD, on display.”
Donnelly’s designs received much praise, with Sunday Business Post fashion columnist Ruth O’Connor saying the news was “no surprise” and Ireland’s leading fashion app Frock Advisor describing the designs as “stunning.”
In total, twelve graduates were shortlisted representing fashion colleges around the country, with six finalists coming from NCAD including Nino Sanaia, Grainne Walley, Karla Bowden, Aisling Duff and Ailbhe Griffin.
