Over The Top Wrestling organise monthly events based on current trends and happened to have a Fr Ted themed show the day Frank Kelly, an actor from the series passed away. This was on the 18th anniversary of his co-star Dermot Morgan’s death. OTT describe their shows as “extreme American wrestling entertainment taking place in a twisted circus sideshow”.

Peter Farrell, a wrestler for OTT described his role in the show as a “spandex pantomime”. He and his team-mate Barry Malone are both members of the ‘Gymnasties’ whose storyline is based on a group of deluded out of shape guys obsessed with fitness.

Other characters include ‘The lads from the flats’ and ‘Martina the session moth’. The organisers try to create characters that are stereotypical people you would meet here in Ireland portrayed to the extreme.

When asked what event goers should expect at their shows, Barry said to “expect the unexpected” and reassured that young and old alike would be entertained with “stunts, athleticism, comedy and a lot of crowd interaction.”

The upcoming show, ‘Better than our Best’, will take place on April 23rd in the Tivoli Theatre and tickets can be purchased from eventbrite.ie.

The event is over 18s and the bar has a late license. There will be drinks promotions on the night as well as a party after the show.

A full review of the show will be published in the upcoming edition of the Liberty.
