The latest showcase at the Temple Bar Gallery + Studios is a free, unique and interactive experience called Huddle tests.
It was created by the Dublin-based artist Rhona Byrne and runs from September 11th to November 7th.
The project was developed while Ms. Byrne was on residency in the Facebook Headquarters in Dublin in early 2015. It demonstrates a physical display of the connections people make on Facebook and other social media websites.
The wearable artworks come under the name ‘Huddlewear.’ Róisín Bohan, who is a curatorial assistant at the studios, explains what the exhibition is about, “It’s called Huddle tests because it is a test and a social experiment”. Róisín explains the space is almost like a physical social network as it’s accessible. For example, some people who come into the exhibition don’t interact or even look at strangers who are there aswell, they just try on some of the ‘Huddlewear’ with their friends. Other people are more approachable towards strangers in terms of starting conversations and trying on some of the different artworks together.
The ‘Huddlewear’ varies from almost weightless cloaks for two or more people to connecting hats for two people to wear. “The interesting thing is there are a lot more people coming into the gallery that usually wouldn’t because they’re wondering what the exhibition is about. It catches your eye so much that people want to know what it is all about. The exhibition is open for everyone to do their own thing with the wearable artworks” concluded Ms. Bohan.
