Alternatives to Valentines Day

With less than a week to go until Valentine’s Day, we take a look at some alternative ways to mark the special day in and around Dublin’s city centre. Whether you are loved up or not, there is definitely something to keep you amused.

 

The Dublin Ghostbus Tour

For those among us who love the thrill of being scared, Dublin Bus are putting on a special Valentine’s Day version of their usual Halloween Ghostbus Tour. The tour will take in sights such as the Hellfire Club as well as the origins of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The evening takes place on a specially kitted-out bus (a far cry from your standard work commute) and therefore has many scary extra features to heighten your fears! It lasts over two hours and costs €28 – well worth checking out if being scared out of your wits is your thing!

 

Ireland v France
For those of you who are more tempted by watching sports and drinking pints than a candlelit dinner for two, you’re in luck. The Six Nations is finally here with Ireland are set to welcome their suave French counterparts to the Aviva Stadium on Feb 14th. While the main event may be sold out, there are still numerous ways that you can enjoy the game with your significant other around the city centre. Rugby strongholds such as Trinity Bar, Sinnots and the Mercantile, among many others, all have special offers on during the match, including enticing drinks deals and finger food at half time.

If you don’t happen to currently have a certain someone in your life, don’t despair. The Bernard Shaw on South Richmond Street are hosting a Tinder party, with a free glass of prosecco to any brave singleton that shows their Tinder app at the bar. With a top selection of DJs playing sexy hits and lots more fun planned for the night, the plucky singletons might not stay single for very long.

If you are looking for something more interactive, The Sugar Club may have just the ticket for you. They are holding their annual Rocky Horror Anti-Valentines night on the 14th February. With full audience interaction and of course a “best dressed” prize on the night, fans of the musical are sure to enjoy this event. Tickets are available online and cost €15 with the show kicking off at 8pm.
