A young man is in a critical condition in hospital following a violent attack, which took place at a house party in Tallaght earlier this week.
The 21-year-old victim was taken to St. James’s hospital after he was maliciously attacked with a Samurai sword in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene immediately and it is reported that when Gardaí arrived at the scene, the man was lying in a pool of his own blood with a substantial open wound in his stomach.
The man has since undergone emergency surgery and his condition is described as life threatening.
It is believed that the incident, which took place at a house in the Daltree estate in Firhouse, arose from an argument between two party-goers.
Upon searching the premises, Gardaí found a Samurai sword which they believe was used in the attack.
Another 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene in connection with the stabbing. He is being held at Tallaght Garda station for questioning.
Just hours after the stabbing in Firhouse, in an unrelated incident a 55-year-old man was stabbed to death in Skerries, while minding his grandchildren.
Michael Gannon was killed at his daughter’s house in Mourne Park on Thursday evening.
The incident occurred shortly after 6pm, when the man was stabbed just inside the front door of the house.
A 29 year old Romanian man has since been arrested in connection with the attack and he is being detained at Balbriggan Garda Station.
Knife related crimes are becoming increasingly common and the number of people injured or murdered as a result of stabbings continues to soar.
