Laura Meehan and Hannah Tuthill-Hogan hit the streets to find out what are the ‘must haves’ and the ‘can’t leave the house without’ items for this frosty season.
When temperatures start to drop, it begins to get dark at 5pm and you can’t leave the house without your hat and scarf, you can be sure winter has really arrived. We put away our summer shorts and skirts and rediscover our big woolly jumpers and coats. But the cold weather doesn’t mean style has to suffer. You can still dress well and look great while keeping warm and snug on these cold days.
Jenny, a student from Dublin 8, proves you can look fab and keep warm with her fashionable, colourful ensemble on a bitterly cold afternoon. Jenny’s favourite things about winter style are “all the woolly knits”. She is dressed in a cosy knit scarf and hat and a gorgeous vintage coat to keep warm.
Margaret Burke, Christchurch Dublin 8, was dressed in colour and style with one of the ‘must haves’ for any winter wardrobe – leather boots. Margaret, along with many other women, would consider boots to be a ‘go to’ item for this season. Sandals and pumps are gone for the winter and this cold weather demands some warm footwear. Knee high boots are a fashionable way to keep warm and dry. Margaret is also kept nice and snug by her colourful scarf and gloves, which prove that not all colour needs to be banished to the back of the wardrobe when winter arrives.
Patricia Lancaster, Iveagh Trust Dublin 8, was definitely dressed to impress looking fabulous in her winter wear. Fur is something that will always be in style for the winter months, adding glamor to any outfit. Again we see the popular season favourite of leather boots. Patricia brings the outfit together with the essential warm winter coat to keep out the cold.
Rosin Murdock, is a 21 year-old student from Dublin who is wearing the perfect example of a warm and wonderfully bright winter outfit. Rosin’s favourite winter piece is the dress she is wearing under that warm winter coat. She loves wearing dresses with cosy tights to stay warm and on-trend this season.
