Aimee McCarthy takes a look at the latest releases to hit the shops, with an exciting new DVD, uplifting music and a book for the tots.
Ice Age is a fun-for-all-the-family comedy film series. The fourth in the series will be released on the December 10 and would make a great present for anyone who enjoyed the last three. Still as funny and entertaining as ever, this film will not disappoint. Most good shops will also sell the four movies as a boxset. Sid, Manny and the gang get up to the usual antics in this movie with hilarious consequences. Definitely one to consider this Christmas!
Bruno Mars has risen in popularity hugely over the past two years and this December he releases his second studio album. The first single ‘Locked out of Heaven’ has already been released and has received positive reviews across the board. The album doesn’t follow one particular musical direction and with a mixture of pop, rock, reggae and many more styles; this album definitely keeps the listener interested throughout. The title single ‘Locked out of Heaven’ is being played constantly on radio stations across the country and it’s difficult not to have your foot tapping along to it. Mars always satisfies with his upbeat and catchy songs, and this album is no different.
500 Days of Summer star Joseph Gordon Levitt comes back again this year with his Tiny Book of Tiny Stories. For those of you who haven’t heard of these books, the idea behind them is simple. “The universe is not made of atoms’ it’s made of tiny stories” as Joseph Gordon Levitt said. His book comprises of illustrations and tiny stories to accompany them. An example of a story featured in volume one is, “The Doctor’s wife ate two apples a day, just to be safe. But her husband kept coming home”. The entire book is full of these tiny stories that can make you happy, sad or reflective just by reading a simple sentence or two. I would recommend this book to anyone for Christmas. It retails for roughly €8. You couldn’t go wrong by getting this for someone as a present that wouldn’t break the bank.
