Chuckle for charity

By Eve Sherlock

A night of comedy is being held in aid of the YMCA Aungier Street Strong Kids campaign in the Laughter Lounge this month.

Well- known for his stints on The Savage Eye and Republic of Telly, Australian comedian Damian Clark will headline on the night of May 17th, along with Andrew Bird and two more acts yet to be announced.

With tickets selling at just €25 from the YMCA reception, Bernadette Grogan, Strong Kids campaign co-ordinator and fundraising manager, explains why people should get their tickets to support this local charity.

“For €25 you get a night out, with four brilliant comedians and know that €20 of what you paid is going straight to charity. Get down early to enjoy a complimentary drink before 7.30 pm and relax for an hour before the show begins.”

The Strong Kids campaign was launched at the beginning of March, and so far has received a positive response from local and social media and from locals wanting to take part in the campaign.

If tickets manage to sell out for this event, as is hoped, it alone will raise €4,000 for the charity. Bernadette says work on the campaign is busier than ever.

“We are working on impact videos to build up the message of what we do here and the difference that we make to people’s lives.  There has been good feedback from the campaign and the message that it is conveying.

With a number of sports events, the comedy fundraiser and the Flora Women’s mini-marathon, we hope that we will start to build up support for our Strong Kids campaign and be able to report on the progress that we are making.”
