Guinness Rugby Football Club got their Leinster League Division 3 campaign off to a tonic start with a 24-0 win over Midland Warriors away, securing the bonus point in the process.
Despite the score line, this game never lacked ferocity and was at all times exciting and intense. It didn’t take long for Guinness to get on the score board as John Maher broke through for the opening try to make it 5-0 at the break.
After relieving some early pressure in the second half, Maher intercepted a loose pass on his own 22 to sprint in for the second try.
Guinness continued to dominate, and a sweeping move on 60 minutes involving Andrew Hughes and Maher paved the way to send Graham Glennon in from close range.
Guinness demonstrated remarkable composure to close out the contest as their immense pack drove forward with David Murphy fending off two opponents to touch down for the fourth try.
