Safety this Christmas
By Oisin O'Callaghan | December 13, 2010.
We all get fairly excited when opening our presents, putting on new clothes we buy in the sales, and having a few or a few too many drinks. But there is a danger of getting too excited, and here are some facts that might save you a trip to the hospital this year.
- Some hospitals reported up to four broken arms due to ‘cracker pulling’ accidents last year.
- Five people were injured in 2004 in accidents involving out of control Scalextric cars.
- One hundred and one people since 1997 have had to have broken parts of plastic toys pulled out of the soles of their feet.
- One hundred and forty two people were injured in 1998 by not removing all pins from new shirts.
- 543 people were admitted to A&E in the last two years after opening bottles of beer with their teeth.
So heed the misfortunes of others this Christmas and spend no time in a crowded waiting room!
