Susan Swift reports on the “new black” that’s taking the red carpet by a storm.
Wearing nude to an award ceremony, especially in Ireland, is always a brash choice, but February’s IFTA red carpet displayed this season’s must-wear colour.
In contrast to other years, where daring colours and motifs are reintroduced after the sombre tones of winter, this is said to be more of a “non-colour” trend.
Rather than the usual array of vibrant red, royal blue and demure black, the red carpet for the Irish Film and Television Awards was filled with well-known personalities sporting these soft tones.
Neutral pallets dominated the spring summer catwalks for 2010 and Irish fashionistas Karen Koster and Grainne Seoige proved that less is more.
Grainne Seoige wore a strapless, tiered gown which looked chic and relaxed.
Always on point, Xposé’s Karen Koster made nude “the new black” and combined the trend with a Grecian theme. Her silken café-au-lait dress was teamed seamlessly with an embellished headband and made the Helen-of-Troy look edgy.
Raw actress Charelene McKenna looked like an old Hollywood starlet with her pale skin and champagne-coloured gown. She updated the floral print with an injection of colour with the inclusion of red lipstick.
