Griffith College sponsor Kevin’s GAA

Griffith College have announced its sponsorship of one of the oldest GAA clubs in Dublin.

Griffith College will sponsor the Kevin’s GAA club’s camogie team for the 2019 Feile na nGael, an annual competition for children under the age of 14.

The college, which is situated on the South Circular Road, is a neighbour to Kevin’s who are on nearby Donore Avenue.

At a basic level, the competition allows children to participate in gaelic games but one of its main aims is to bond communities and forge friendships between clubs and members.

The 32 counties between Ireland and Northern Ireland participate in the tournaments which will run over the weekend of the 8th of June 2019.

Should the teams from Kevin’s advance from the regional finals, they will be able to play on a national level.

The value that Kevin’s GAA adds to the community was acknowledged by Griffith College as they offer training to referees and coaches from a young age which aids the development of confidence in the children and promotes leadership skills.

The children that take part in this training also gain a sense of responsibility and learn to understand how to instruct and work well with others.

Griffith college has four campuses around the country, two in Dublin, one in Cork and one in Limerick. This is the first time the Dublin, South Circular Road campus have sponsored a team while their Limerick campus currently sponsors Braxuca, a local soccer squad.

Jennifer Kearns, a spokeswoman for Kevin’s GAA said, “With the backing of Griffith College, Kevin’s can be fully prepared for this competition with the necessary equipment and team wear. I look forward to a long and prosperous partnership.”

Kearns added that she would like to see the partnership develop into an ongoing one and that Kevin’s would love if their older club members could get involved in other events with Griffith College.

Although the college have never sponsored Kevin’s before, they have worked together in various other ways including providing rooms for their executive to meet on campus and providing a location for the club’s events such as their strategic plan official launch.

Head of marketing at Griffith College, Steven Roberts said, “we are delighted to provide this sponsorship for the Kevin’s under 14 camogie team. It is part of the college’s ongoing commitment to supporting our local community. Kevin’s is an important club in the locality and one with whom the college has a strong ongoing relationship. We wish the team all the best for their upcoming matches and the national finals.”
